The Power of Social Enterprise (11)

The Power of Social Enterprise (11)

With over 120 million Nigerians living below the poverty line, and the latest ranking of Nigeria as 152 out of 188 countries of the world, Nigeria has thus become one of the poorest countries, despite her rich human and natural resources.

With the increasing and widespread poverty, breakdown of social infrastructure and the general systemic failure in the country, the NGOs, the non –profits, charities, FBOs, CBOs,  voluntary and the civil society organizations are the ones on the frontlines, challenging the status quo, asking questions others dare not ask, putting their lives at risk, offering succour to the most marginalized and vulnerable populations and providing the much needed social safety nets for the millions of poor Nigerians.

NGOs and Social entreprises therefore remain our most promising hope for socio – economic, political and cultural development, even as they work to strengthen and scale up existing solutions which have stood the test of time as effective and viable strategies for sustainable human and social change.
